The ArchaeoCosmos Portal is a hub where parallel and collaborating research programs of the members of the Department of History and Archeology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and other researchers are hosted, with an open philosophy and structure. ArchaeoCosmos is based on a PostgreSQL database, where archaeological and geographical information has been recorded about 33,669 archeological sites, 669 sites, 1,101 ethnic groups, 3,874 natural sites (mountains, lakes, rivers, etc.), as well as 14,549 monuments from the Mediterranean and the Near East. At the same time, a repository of 1,421 Ancient Greek books has been created, which will gradually be added integrated into the database and geo-tags will be created. The main goal of the Portal is to make the interactive map and the contents of the database accessible to the wider academic and educational community, as well as to the general public.

Welcome to ArchaeoCosmos
This project has been implemented on four Virtual Servers, which are being provided by the National Network of Technology and Research Infrastructures. The ArcGIS Enterprise was provided as a courtesy by Marathon Data Systems (MDS). MDS provided valuable technical support for the installation and configuration of the software and the ArchaeoCosmos Portal. A number of importan research projects have been a valuable source of information: PLEIADES, Digital Atlas of the Roman Empire, Mycenaean Atlas Project, Geographic Data for Ancient Near Eastern Archaeological Sites. However, the data entered in the ArchaeoCosmos database is thoroughly checked and enriched by our team members.
